Courses - Under  Graduate  Level

The University is offering Mathematics Subject as one of the main Subjects at Under Graduate Level from the Academic Year 1983-84. The Course Mathematics  is one of the course in B.Sc Programme. It is Three Years Degree Programme. Initially the Programme was offered as Annual Programme. But, from the Academic Year 2017-2018, the B.Sc Programme is offering in Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)  pattern with Practical Component in both Telugu and English Medium. This  Programme was structured in such a way that it as a  strategy to enhance the cognitive skills of  learners of Mathematics. One of the important aspects of introducing Practical Training omponent in Mathematics teaching is the ability to internalize the problem solving skills in students. To enable the learner to exhibit the Problem Solving Skills, both in  Theory and Practical, the Problem Solving Techniques under the guidance of a Counsellor, it is decided to have face to face interaction between the Learner and the Counsellor by splitting them into smaller student groups  in a class room situation to pay  personal attention to the Learner.  In the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh this course is offered at all Regional Coordination Centres .

 Courses - Post  Graduation  Level

The University has launched Post-Graduation Programmes in 1993. The Department of  Mathematics introduced M.Sc  Mathematics Applied Mathematics Programme from the Academic Year 1993-1994 with unlimited  seats. every year thousands of students have been joined in this Programme.The M.Sc Programme is 2 years duration in English Medium . It consists ten (10) Courses in the Subject of  Mathematics / Applied Mathematics (5 Courses in the I Year and 5 Courses in the II Year) leading to the Degree of  M.Sc (Mathematics)/ M.Sc  (Applied Mathematics)   and divided into two parts:   

         (i)  Core  Courses  and  (ii)  Elective  Courses.                                                                                      

 The Core Courses are compulsory for all the Students. The Elective Courses are offered in two Groups. Group - A consists of courses oriented towards Mathematics .  Group - B consists of courses oriented towards Applied Mathematics

 A student has to select three courses either from Group - A or Group – B . All the Elective Courses are offered in the Second Year of the Programme. In the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh this course is  offered at all Regional Coordination       Centres . The Programme was structured in such a way that it strengthens the quantitative reasoning and Problem Solving Skills which are necessary in areas beyond Mathematics. Students who study Mathematics or Engineering are prepared to work     on forefront ideas in Science and Technology,  in  Academia, in the Government or the Private  Sector.

Courses - Research Programmes

Research Programmes leading to M.Phil and Ph.D were introduced from the Academic Year 2009-2010 onwards. The Topics selected for Research is varied and of current importance.

Profile of the Faculty Members

The pedagogy in Open University is different from Conventional University. The central core faculty working in the University has to perform multitasks. They are involved in different academic activities like Planning and Designing the Programme, developing  the Self Learning Course Material, preparation of  Audio, Video development programmes and coordinating with internal assessment of students, counselling to students in both theory and practical sessions and in the examination and evaluation process, prepare the students for attending the laboratory training, making the students to get  the problem solving techniques by their own.

Number of Courses

     UG – B.Sc  Mathematics is one of the three Optional Subjects in the Undergraduate Programme.

               6 Semesters =   6 Core Subjects + 2 Elective Courses out of the 4 Courses + 2 Skill   Development Courses  

     PG –  M.Sc  Mathematics /Applied Mathematics  has  10  Courses  out  of  13  Courses.

UG, PG : The Student is provided with the Self - Learning Mateial supplemented by the Audio, Video Lessons and Tele-Conference on specified Sundays. The face to face Counseling Sessions are conducted on Sundays at the Study  Centers. All the Science Students, (B.Sc &  M.Sc Progamme,) have to attend the Study Centers for their Laboratory Training which is mandatory.

M.Phil / PhD: One Semester classes will be conducted in the University for the Research  Students  along  with  a  Project  Thesis.
